Regular Season Round 17: Varese Robur - USE Basket 66-62

There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Varese Robur (7-9) won against at home 4th placed USE Basket (9-7) 66-62 on Saturday. Varese Robur made 20-of-21 free shots (95.2 percent) during the game. Strangely USE Basket outrebounded Varese Robur 53-30 including a 20-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international point guard Federico Bolzonella (184-84) stepped up and scored 25 points and 4 steals (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners and guard Matteo Maruca (187-97) chipped in 14 points. Power forward Michele Bei (200-90) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 19 rebounds and Gianni Terrosi (191-89) scored 9 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Varese Robur moved-up to eleventh place in B. Loser USE Basket dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. Varese Robur will face league's leader Omegna on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
