Regular Season Round 20: Olympiacos - Brose Bask. 83-77

Very expected game in Athens where 12th ranked German Brose Baskets (7-13) were defeated by third ranked Greek Olympiacos (14-6) 83-77 on Friday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 24-13. But Brose Baskets won second period 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Brose Baskets were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Canadian center Khem Birch (208-92, college: UNLV) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds and Vassilis Spanoulis (193-82, agency: BeoBasket) who added 15 points and 6 assists during the contest. French Fabien Causeur (195-87) responded with 12 points and 5 assists and Italian Nicolo Melli (205-91) scored 14 points. Four Olympiacos and five Brose Baskets players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Greek champion maintains third position with 14-6 record behind leader Real Madrid. Brose Baskets lost fourth consecutive game. Defending German champion keep the twelfth place with 13 games lost. Olympiacos will face Unics Kazan (#14) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Brose Baskets will play against Maccabi T-A and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
