Regular Season Round 17: Naron - Chantada 63-74

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Naron (8-6) was defeated at home by first ranked Chantada (12-2) 74-63 on Saturday. Chantada made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Naron turnovers. Naron was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was forward Abel Cortes (200) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Montenegrin center Filip Knezevic (205-94) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Four Chantada players scored in double figures. Guard Samuel Barros (190-98) produced 22 points and American guard Rob Brandenberg (188-92, college: VCU) added 7 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Chantada maintains first place in Group A-B with 12-2 record. Loser Naron dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. Chantada will face Betanzos (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Naron will play against Seis do Nadal in Vigo and hope to win that game.
