Regular Season Round 4: Okzhetpes - Astana Tigers 32-66

An exciting game was played in Kokshetay. Top-ranked Astana Tigers faced 3rd ranked Okzhetpes. Guests from Astana (8-0) smashed host Okzhetpes (1-7) 66-32. The game without a history. Astana Tigers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Okzhetpes to just 3 points in fourth quarter and to 13 points in second half. Astana Tigers held Okzhetpes to an opponent 20.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 45.3 percent accuracy of the winners. Astana Tigers forced 33 Okzhetpes turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists comparing to just 4 passes made by Okzhetpes' players. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Tamara Yagodkina (181-90) who helped to win the game recording 20 points. Astana Tigers' coach Vitaliy Strebkov felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Tolmagay Ermagambetova (176-95) replied with 12 points and 8 rebounds and Russian forward Tatiana Grigoryeva (178-90) added 10 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Okzhetpes. Astana Tigers have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 8-0 record. Defending champion Okzhetpes stay at the bottom place with seven games lost. Astana Tigers will play against league's second-placed Irtysh in Pavlodar in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Okzhetpes will play at home against the league's second-placed Irtysh and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
