Regular Season Round 16: Perth - Dandenong 87-77
Date: January 29, 2017
An interesting game for Perth Lynx (13-7) which hosted in Perth their biggest opponent Dandenong Rangers (14-6). Third ranked Perth Lynx managed to get a 10-point victory 87-77. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Dandenong Rangers. The game was mostly controlled by Perth Lynx. Dandenong Rangers managed to win second period 25-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Perth Lynx won last quarter 20-12. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Perth Lynx made 9 blocks. The winners were led by American swingman Samantha Whitcomb (178-88, college: Washington) who scored that evening 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Canadian center Ruth Hamblin (198-94, college: Oregon St., agency: LBM Management) supported her with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Perth Lynx's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 20 points and 5 assists by American guard Natalie Novosel (180-89, college: Notre Dame, agency: LBM Management) did not help to save the game for Dandenong Rangers. Her fellow American import forward Ally Malott (193-92, college: Dayton, agency: Interperformances) added 18 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Perth Lynx have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 13-7 record having just three points less than leader Sydney. Loser Dandenong Rangers keep the second place with six games lost. Perth Lynx will meet at home Canberra Capitals (#6) in the next round. Dandenong Rangers will play against Townsville Fire (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
