Regular Season Round 25: Al Khor - Al Rayyan 80-98

Very expected game when 12th ranked Al Khor (2-11) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Al Rayyan (9-4) 98-80 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Al Rayyan. Al Khor was better in fourth quarter 23-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Al Khor 49-35 including 20 on the offensive glass. Al Rayyan looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international forward Tanguy Ngombo (197-84) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and American center Marcus Bell (206-90, college: CS Stanislaus) chipped in 18 points and 12 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Five Al Rayyan players scored in double figures. Al Rayyan's coach Matthew Skillman used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American point guard Dairese Gary (185-88, college: N.Mexico) responded with a triple-double by scoring 32 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists and the other American import Rickey Young (205-90, college: W.Virginia Tech) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for Al Rayyan. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Loser Al Khor dropped to the bottom position with 11 games lost. Al Rayyan's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Sadd.
