Second Stage Round 5: Unicaja - ALBA 83-77

The game between closely ranked teams ended with second ranked Spanish Unicaja Malaga's (3-2) home victory over 3rd placed German ALBA Berlin (1-4) 83-77 on Wednesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But ALBA Berlin won third quarter 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded ALBA Berlin 36-21 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Unicaja Malaga shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 53.6 percentage. The best player for the winners was Serbian point guard Nemanja Nedovic (191-91, agency: BeoBasket) who scored 16 points and 4 assists. American point guard Kyle Fogg (190-90, college: Arizona) chipped in 20 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). American point guard Peyton Siva (183-90, college: Louisville) produced 15 points and 9 assists and the other American import Tony Gaffney (206-84, college: Massachusetts, agency: Octagon Europe) added 8 points and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Unicaja Malaga maintains second place in Group H with 3-2 record having just eight point less than leader Lokomotiv. Loser ALBA Berlin keeps the third position with four games lost. Unicaja Malaga will face Cedevita (#4) in Zagreb in the next round. ALBA Berlin will play at home against the league's leader Valencia Basket and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
