Regular Season Round 21: Zalgiris - FC Barcelona 89-85

Everything could happen in Kaunas at the game between two tied teams. Both eleventh ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris and 10th ranked Spanish FC Barcelona had identical 8-12 record. This time Zalgiris used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Barcelona 89-85 on Thursday night. FC Barcelona was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Zalgiris made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. FC Barcelona was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was point guard Lukas Lekavicius (180-94) who scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Guard Edgaras Ulanovas (197-92) chipped in 17 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Juan Carlos Navarro (192-80) who recorded 17 points and 4 assists and American-Montenegrin point guard Tyrese Rice (185-87, college: Boston Coll.) added 12 points and 7 assists respectively. Four Zalgiris and five FC Barcelona players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Zalgiris. Defending Lithuanian champion (9-12) moved-up to tenth place. FC Barcelona lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Zalgiris will face higher ranked Olympiacos (#3) in Athens in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. FC Barcelona will play at home against Galatasaray (#16) and hope to win that game.
