Very important is a road loss of second ranked Moncalieri (13-5) against eighth ranked Fiorentina (10-8) on Saturday night. Visiting Moncalieri was defeated by Fiorentina in Firenze 83-73. They made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for swingman Davide Poltroneri (195-85) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Giacomo Bloise (183-90) accounted for 15 points and 4 assists for the winning side. The former international power forward Francesco Conti (205-83) came up with 12 points and 8 rebounds and swingman Leone Gioria (194-84) added 10 points and 4 assists respectively for Moncalieri in the defeat. Five Fiorentina and four Moncalieri players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Fiorentina moved-up to sixth place in B. Loser Moncalieri keeps the second position with five games lost. Fiorentina will meet Sangiorgese (#12) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Moncalieri will play against USE Basket (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
