Regular Season Round 26: Al Sadd - Al Rayyan 57-81

Another interesting game was again a derby match of two teams from Doha: Al Rayyan (#3) and Al Sadd (#8). Al Sadd was smashed at home by 24 points 57-81 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Al Rayyan. Al Sadd was better in third quarter 26-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Al Rayyan forced 24 Al Sadd turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Al Sadd's players. American center Marcus Bell (206-90, college: CS Stanislaus) notched a double-double by scoring 20 points, 18 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the effort and the former international forward Tanguy Ngombo (197-84) supported him with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Al Rayyan players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 32 points and 14 rebounds by American forward AJ West (206-91, college: Nevada) did not help to save the game for Al Sadd. Senegalese center Oumar Seck (208-88) added 11 points and 14 rebounds for the hosts. Al Rayyan have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains third position with 10-4 record having four points less than leader El Jaysh. Al Sadd lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with 11 games lost. Al Rayyan's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Qatar Sports Club.
