Regular Season Round 17: PuHu Juniorit - PeU-Basket 70-64

There was no surprise in Vantaa where 10th ranked PeU-Basket (6-13) was defeated by second ranked PuHu Juniorit (14-4) 70-64 on Sunday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. PuHu Juniorit outrebounded PeU-Basket 48-28 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was guard Eero Lehtinen (194-85) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Otto Markkanen (190-90) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds. PuHu Juniorit's coach used an eleven-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Forward Riku Laine (197-97) produced 33 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and American forward Tiel Daniels (200-92, college: Colorado St.) added 11 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the guests. PuHu Juniorit maintains second place in Division with 14-4 record behind leader TuNMKY. Loser PeU-Basket keeps the tenth position with 13 games lost. PuHu Juniorit will face HNMKY U23 (#8) in Helsinki in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. PeU-Basket will play at home against Korikouvot and hope to win that game.
