Regular Season Round 23: Rennes - Souffel 81-82

Eleventh-ranked Union Rennes (10-13) gave a tough game to third ranked Souffelweyersheim (17-6) on Saturday. The visitors from Souffelweyersheim managed to secure only one-point victory 82-81. However their fans expected much easier game. Souffelweyersheim looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for Lithuanian power forward Giedrius Staniulis (205-91) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. DR Congolese-Belgian power forward Ruphin Kayembe (200-92) helped adding 14 points and 9 rebounds. American swingman Daviin Davis (193-85, college: Weber St.) responded with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and point guard Johan Rathieuville (178-85) scored 16 points and 5 assists. Four Union Rennes players scored in double figures. Union Rennes' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Souffelweyersheim keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Caen and Quimper. Newly promoted Union Rennes keeps the eleventh place with 13 games lost. Souffelweyersheim will face Orchesien BC (#6) in Orchies in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Union Rennes will play on the road against Caen (#3) and hope to win that game.
