Regular Season Round 21: Sevilla - Estudiantes 73-77

Date: February 12, 2017
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both twelfth ranked Movil Estudiantes and 11th ranked Sevilla had identical 7-12 record. But Sevilla was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Madrid 77-73 on Sunday night. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Movil Estudiantes made 7 blocks. Sevilla was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. French Edwin Jackson (190-89, agency: BeoBasket) stepped up and scored 23 points and 5 assists for the winners and Bosnian-Croatian center Goran Suton (208-85, college: Michigan St.) chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds. Movil Estudiantes' coach Salvador Maldonado used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket) with 13 points and 9 rebounds and Canadian point guard Kenny Chery (180-92, college: Baylor, agency: Diamond Sports) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. Four Sevilla players scored in double figures. Movil Estudiantes (8-12) moved-up to eleventh place. Sevilla lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with 13 games lost. Movil Estudiantes will face higher ranked FC Barcelona (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sevilla will play against UCAM Murcia (#15) and hope to win that game.
