Regular Season Round 10: Alab Pilipinas - KL Dragons 87-79
Date: February 17, 2017
No shocking result in a game when third ranked Filipino Alab Pilipinas (7-5) beat bottom-ranked Malaysian KL Dragons (3-10) in Manila 87-79 on Friday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But KL Dragons won fourth quarter 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded KL Dragons 53-39 including a 38-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. American players dominated the game. Center James Hughes (211-83, college: N.Illinois, agency: Haylett Sports) notched a double-double by scoring 14 points and 18 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Sampson Carter (203-90, college: Massachusetts, agency: Haylett Sports) supported him with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Five Alab Pilipinas players scored in double figures. Even 30 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists by point guard Kiwi Gardner (170-93, college: Providence) did not help to save the game for KL Dragons. Power forward Skylar Spencer (208-94, college: San Diego St.) added 17 points and 17 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Alab Pilipinas maintains third position with 7-5 record having 3 victories less than leader Singapore S. KL Dragons lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with ten games lost. Alab Pilipinas will meet Saigon Heat (#5) on the road in the next round. KL Dragons will play against the league's second-placed Hong Kong ELL and hope to secure a win.
