Regular Season Round 24: Caen - Rennes 71-50

Date: February 17, 2017
The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Caen as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Caen smashed 11th ranked Union Rennes at home 71-50. The game was mostly controlled by Caen. Union Rennes managed to win third quarter 12-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Caen forced 21 Union Rennes turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of center Moustapha Diarra (204-87, college: USF) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds and American-Cape Verdean swingman BJ Monteiro (196-90, college: Duquesne) who added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Caen's coach Herve Coudray felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was center Ludovic Negrobar (207-91) with 13 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Anthony Hill (204-88, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) scored 9 points and 8 rebounds. Caen (18-6) have an impressive nine-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Union Rennes lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted Union Rennes dropped to the fourteenth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Angers BC and SAP Vaucluse. Union Rennes will play next round against UB Chartres trying to get back on the winning streak. Caen will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Orchesien BC in Orchies.
