Regular Season Round 28: Al Rayyan - El Jaysh 55-86

Date: February 18, 2017
Another interesting game was again a derby match of two local teams from Doha: El Jaysh (#1) and Al Rayyan (#4). Al Rayyan was smashed at home by 31 points 55-86 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by El Jaysh. Al Rayyan managed to win second period 11-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. El Jaysh dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Al Rayyan's 26. American point guard Dominic James (180-86, college: Marquette) fired 28 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 8 steals for the winners. The other American import power forward Vernon Macklin (208-86, college: Florida) chipped in 26 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. El Jaysh's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center Marcus Bell (206-90, college: CS Stanislaus) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 20 rebounds and the former international forward Tanguy Ngombo (197-84) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. El Jaysh (16-0) have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position with a perfect record of 16 victories in a row. Defending champion Al Rayyan keeps the fourth place with six games lost. El Jaysh's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Arabi.
