Regular Season Round 19: Melbourne - Bendigo 79-80

Seventh-ranked Boomers (5-19) used its home court advantage to challenge sixth ranked Bendigo Spirit (13-11) in Melbourne. The visitors from Bendigo managed to secure only one-point victory 80-79. However their fans expected easier game. Boomers cut a 14-point halftime deficit to one at the end of the game. They outrebounded Boomers 38-20 including a 26-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Canadian power forward Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe (188-91, college: Simon Fraser) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. American forward Kelsey Griffin (188-87, college: Nebraska) helped adding 11 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Bendigo Spirit players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Madeleine Garrick (178-92) responded with 21 points and guard Rebecca Cole (178-92) scored 19 points (made all of her seven free throws). Boomers' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Bendigo Spirit moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Canberra. Boomers at the other side keep the seventh position with 19 games lost.
