Regular Season Round 21: La Fecha - Estudiantes L. 79-87

Everything went according to plan when fifth ranked Estudiantes L. (12-6) defeated 11th ranked La Fecha (6-12) in Arroyo Encomienda 87-79 on Saturday. La Fecha trailed by 14 points at halftime and as many as 19 after three quarters before a 31-20 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 79-87 at the end of the game. Estudiantes L. had a 26-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. La Fecha was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Ivorian center Seydou Aboubacar (207-94) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Marcos Ruiz (176-95) contributed with 16 points and 7 assists for the winners. Guard Jorge Martinez (181-96) answered with 14 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Andres Fernandez (178-89) added 16 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) in the effort for La Fecha. Five Estudiantes L. and four La Fecha players scored in double figures. La Fecha's coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Estudiantes L. moved-up to third place in Group A-B. La Fecha lost their sixth game in a row. They dropped to the twelfth position with 12 games lost. Estudiantes L. will face Gijon (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. La Fecha will play against the league's leader Chantada and hope to win that game.
