Regular Season Round 19: AEK Athens - PAOK 77-71

Rather predictable result when third ranked AEK Athens (15-4) defeated at home 5th ranked PAOK (10-9) 77-71. It looked good early as PAOK took a 11-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then AEK Athens took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 6 points. They outrebounded PAOK 41-30 including 26 on the defensive glass. 26 personal fouls committed by PAOK helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Croatian point guard Roko-Leni Ukic (196-84, agency: XL Basketball Agency) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 5 rebounds. The former international swingman Kostas Vasiliadis (200-84) contributed with 9 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Keith Clanton (205-90, college: Cent.Florida) answered with 17 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import guard Thaddus McFadden (188-87, college: Fairmont St., agency: Higher Vision Sports) added 16 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for PAOK. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. AEK Athens maintains third place with 15-4 record having just three points less than leader Olympiacos. PAOK at the other side keeps the fifth position with nine games lost. AEK Athens' next round opponent will be Promitheas (#8) in Patras which should be theoretically an easy game. PAOK will play at home against Aiolos Trikallon and hope to win that game.
