An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Lugo. First ranked Gipuzkoa faced 4th placed Leche Rio Breogan. Guests from San Sebastian (19-8) defeated host Leche Rio Breogan (17-9) 92-86. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Leche Rio Breogan. The guests trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 29-20 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Gipuzkoa made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American power forward Mike Carlson (206-91, college: Truman St., agency: Duran International) who scored 24 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Bulgarian forward Aleks Simeonov (200-93) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Matt Stainbrook (208-92, college: Xavier, agency: Three Eye Sports) who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and Nigerian-American forward Michael Fakuade (201-89, college: Ill.-Springfield) added 10 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gipuzkoa maintains first place with 19-8 record. Leche Rio Breogan at the other side dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. Gipuzkoa are looking forward to face Oviedo CB (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Leche Rio Breogan will play against Melilla Baloncesto and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
