Not a big story in a game when 16th ranked Union Rennes (11-18) lost to eighth ranked Orchesien BC (16-13) in Orchies 67-81 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 14-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 81-67. Orchesien BC outrebounded Union Rennes 48-28 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American point guard Benjamin Smith (178-87, college: Jacksonville) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 assists. Hugo Dumortier (195-93) contributed with 26 points for the winners. American swingman Daviin Davis (193-85, college: Weber St.) answered with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Ghanian-American Asenso Ampim (203-88, college: Columbia, agency: Octagon Europe) added 9 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Union Rennes. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Orchesien BC moved-up to seventh place. Union Rennes lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted Union Rennes keeps the sixteenth position with 18 games lost. Orchesien BC will face higher ranked Lourdes-Tarbes (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Union Rennes will play against Lorient (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
