Regular Season Round 27: Zalgiris - Anadolu Efes 68-76

Date: March 21, 2017
Rather predictable result in Kaunas where eighth ranked Turkish Anadolu Efes (15-12) beat 10th ranked Lithuanian Zalgiris (12-15) 76-68. Zalgiris were ahead by 3 points at the halftime before a 35-24 second half run of Anadolu Efes. It was an exceptional evening for Uruguayan-Italian guard Jayson Granger (189-89) who led the winners and scored 25 points and 8 assists. American-Armenian center Bryant Dunston (203-86) accounted for 10 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Granger is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Anadolu Efes players scored in double figures. French guard Leo Westermann (197-92, agency: BeoBasket) came up with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists and point guard Lukas Lekavicius (180-94) added 11 points and 6 assists respectively for Zalgiris in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Anadolu Efes moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Crvena Zvezda. Defending Lithuanian champion Zalgiris keep the tenth position with 15 games lost. Anadolu Efes' next round opponent will be higher ranked Fenerbahce (#4) in Istanbul and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zalgiris will play on the road against Maccabi T-A (#13) in Tel-Aviv and hope to win that game.
