The game between second ranked Steaua CSM (15-9) and 6th ranked Pitesti (10-14) in Bucuresti on Wednesday ended with biggest points difference. Steaua CSM beat guests from Pitesti 89-74. The game was mostly controlled by Steaua CSM. Pitesti managed to win second period 18-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Steaua CSM dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Pitesti's 28. They outrebounded Pitesti 44-19 including a 17-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. American power forward Randal Falker (201-85, college: S.Illinois) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and Lithuanian guard Marius Runkauskas (189-86, agency: Octagon Europe) supported him with 19 points and 5 assists. Even 22 points and 5 rebounds by American power forward Vincent Hunter (209-84, college: Arkansas) did not help to save the game for Pitesti. Bulgarian Pavel Marinov (199-88, agency: Interperformances) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Steaua CSM and four Pitesti players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Steaua CSM maintains second position with 15-9 record having just nine point less than leader Olimpic, which they share with CSU Sibiu. Pitesti lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 14 games lost. Steaua CSM will meet CSU Sibiu (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Pitesti will play against the league's leader UBT Cluj Napoca and hope to secure a win.
