Regular Season Round 3: Canterbury - SC Rangers 88-86

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Rangers (3-1) in Christchurch on Friday night. Visitors were edged by Rams (3-2) 88-86. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 29-17. But Rangers won second period 25-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rams dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Rangers' 44. Rams forced 21 Rangers turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. It was a great evening for naturalized American forward Marcel Jones (203-85, college: Oregon St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists. Swingman Ethan Rusbatch (196-92, college: Lincoln Trail CC) helped adding 19 points and 6 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). The best for the losing side was Australian guard Mitchell McCarron (191-92, college: Metro St.) with 32 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international guard Brook Ruscoe (187-90) scored 20 points. Five Rams and four Rangers players scored in double figures. Rams is looking forward to face Saints in Wellington in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Rangers will play on the road against Sharks in Southland and are hoping to win this game.
