AEK topped Apoel for 1-0 lead. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 16-7. But Apoel won third quarter 17-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. AEK dominated on the defensive end, holding Apoel to just 7 points in first quarter. They outrebounded Apoel 42-30 including 31 on the defensive glass. Slovenian power forward Primoz Brezec (216-79) nailed 27 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and American guard LaShard Anderson (185-89, college: Boise St.) accounted for 9 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. AEK's coach Linos Gavriel allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Tre Bussey (190-91, college: Georgia South) came up with 16 points and 6 rebounds and the former international guard Vassilis Kounas (194-84) added 14 points respectively for Apoel in the defeat.
