Regular Season Round 5: San German - Quebradillas 82-89
Date: April 15, 2017
Undefeated leader Piratas delivered the fourth consecutive victory on Saturday night. This time they beat 6th ranked Atleticos (2-3) 89-82 in San German. Atleticos trailed by 16 points after 3 quarters before a 29-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 82-89 at the end of the game. Piratas forced 19 Atleticos turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The former international Michael Rosario (190-90, college: Florida) stepped up and scored 30 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. American swingman Courtney Fells (196-86, college: N.Carolina St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Isaac Sosa-Carrion (190-90, college: Canisius) scored 17 points and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Atleticos' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Piratas have a solid series of four victories in a row. Despite that victory Piratas went down to second position due to points difference. Loser Atleticos keep the sixth place with three games lost. They share the position with Bayamon and Ponce. Piratas will meet at home Leones (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Atleticos will play against Caciques in Humacao and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
