Regular Season Round 5: Guayama - Bayamon 67-77

There was no surprise in Guayama where 10th ranked Brujos (1-5) were defeated by eighth ranked Vaqueros (2-3) 77-67 on Sunday. Vaqueros made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Vaqueros had a 26-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Brujos were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: BeoBasket) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). American power forward Alex Oriakhi (208-90, college: Connecticut) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Damien Wilkins (198-80, college: Georgia) produced 25 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and Cuban center Enrique Ramos (202-89, agency: Paris Global Sports) added 9 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Vaqueros moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Ponce and San German. Loser Brujos keep the tenth position with five games lost. Vaqueros will face league's leader Santeros in Coamo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Brujos will play against Fajardo (#3) and hope to win that game.
