Regular Season Round 6: Quebradillas - Ponce 87-92

The most surprising game was the first loss of Piratas (4-1) in Quebradillas on Monday night. Hosts were defeated by seventh ranked Leones (3-3) 92-87. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Piratas. Leones made 26-of-31 free shots (83.9 percent) during the game, while Piratas only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Piratas 45-31 including 32 on the defensive glass. Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Piratas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Dominican Victor Liz (188-86, agency: Basket Management Solutions) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. American power forward Hakim Warrick (206-82, college: Syracuse) contributed with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winners. American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) replied with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocks and the former international Michael Rosario (190-90, college: Florida) added 23 points in the effort for Piratas. Four Piratas players scored in double figures. Leones moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Fajardo. Piratas at the other side keep the second position with one game lost. Leones is looking forward to face Fajardo (#5) in the next round. Piratas will play against Indios in Mayaguez and are hoping to win this game.
