Regular Season Round 7: Mayaguez - Quebradillas 97-95

Important game to mention about took place in Mayaguez. Ninth ranked Indios (2-5) saved a 2-point victory at home edging much higher ranked Piratas (4-2) 97-95 on Wednesday evening. Piratas were ahead by 7 points at the halftime before a 56-47 second half run of Indios. They made 23-of-30 charity shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward David Laury (206-90, college: Iona) who led the winners and scored 24 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). International Devon Collier (203-91, college: Oregon St.) accounted for 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Indios' coach Bobby Porrata allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) came up with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Luis Hernandez (198-88) added 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively for Piratas in the defeat. Four Indios and five Piratas players scored in double figures. Indios moved-up to eighth place, which they share with San German. Piratas at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with Arecibo. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
