Regular Season Round 8: San German - Bayamon 79-72

Date: April 21, 2017
The game in San German was also quite interesting. 7th ranked Vaqueros (2-5) played at the court of eighth ranked Atleticos (3-5). Atleticos managed to secure a 7-point victory 79-72 on Friday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-19. But Vaqueros won second period 16-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Atleticos looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Justin Keenan (202-88, college: Ferris St.) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 6 rebounds and Cuban center Ismael Romero (203-91, agency: Paris Global Sports) who added 13 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: BeoBasket) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) and international point guard Javier Gonzalez (185-89, college: N.Carolina St.) scored 12 points and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vaqueros' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Atleticos moved-up to seventh place. Loser Vaqueros dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with Mayaguez. Atleticos will meet higher ranked Piratas (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Vaqueros will play against Leones (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
