Regular Season Round 8: Joondalup Wolves - Lakeside L. 98-78

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Lightning (3-5) was outleveled by third ranked Wanneroo (5-1) in Joondalup 98-78 on Friday. Wanneroo forced 20 Lightning turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Lightning was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Naturalized Greek guard Trian Iliadis (190-89, college: ODU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points. Filipino guard Sebestian Salinas (190-85) contributed with 13 points and 5 assists for the winners. American guard Devon Atkinson (185, college: Morehead St.) replied with 19 points and 6 assists and his fellow American import forward James Padgett (203-91, college: Maryland) added 11 points and 17 rebounds in the effort for Lightning. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Wanneroo maintains third position in League with 5-1 record behind leader Geraldton B. Loser Lightning dropped to the ninth place with five games lost. Wanneroo will face Magic (#14) in Mandurah in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Lightning will play on the road against Eagles (#6) in Morley and hope to win that game.
