There was a minor upset when 10th ranked Gijon (9-16) was edged at home by twelfth ranked La Fecha (9-16) 58-57 on Saturday. La Fecha forced 22 Gijon turnovers. Strangely Gijon outrebounded La Fecha 47-31 including a 40-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for forward Arturo Sarmiento (193-94, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 6 rebounds. Alejandro Fisac (183-96) contributed with 12 points for the winners. American center Brian Stone (203-94, college: Malone) replied with 21 points and 9 rebounds and forward Diego Sanchez (198-78) added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Gijon. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. La Fecha moved-up to eleventh place in Group A-B, which they share with defeated Gijon. La Fecha will face higher ranked Naron (#7) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
