Magi das Cruzes rolled past Vitoria on the road to take 1-0 lead in the quarterfinal series. Naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) nailed 34 points (!!!) and 4 assists for the winning side and the former international point guard Larry Taylor (185-80, college: Missouri Western) accounted for 22 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Christopher Hayes (203-87, college: Detroit Mercy) came up with 17 points (made all of his eight free throws) and the former international Arthur Silva (196-82) added 16 points respectively for Universo/Vitoria in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.
