Regular Season Round 11: Mayaguez - Bayamon 54-79

Date: April 27, 2017
The game with biggest result difference took place in Mayaguez. Local Indios (3-7) were outscored by ninth ranked Vaqueros (3-7) 79-54. The game was mostly controlled by Vaqueros. Indios was better in third quarter 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Indios 43-28 including a 31-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Vaqueros brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was a quality performance for Mexican Hector Hernandez (205-85, college: Fresno St., agency: BeoBasket) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. International point guard Javier Gonzalez (185-89, college: N.Carolina St.) accounted for 13 points and 10 assists for the winning side. Gonzalez is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. International Devon Collier (203-91, college: Oregon St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and American-Dominican forward Jose Rodriguez (201-92, college: Texas Southern) added 8 points respectively for Indios in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Vaqueros moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Mayaguez. Vaqueros' next round opponent will be higher ranked Fajardo (#5) and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
