No shocking result in a game in Mt. Barker where fifth ranked Sturt Sabres (3-2) outleveled bottom-ranked Eastern Mavericks (0-5) 94-56 on Saturday. Sturt Sabres dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Eastern Mavericks' 30. They outrebounded Eastern Mavericks 60-31 including a 20-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Sturt Sabres looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Eastern Mavericks' players. Forward Jacob Rigoni (198-98) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for the winners and the former international power forward Claybrin McMath (203-90, college: Bryant) chipped in 10 points and 12 rebounds. Four Sturt Sabres players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Devon Mcgee with 21 points and 7 rebounds and guard Lachlan Barker (179-96) scored 10 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sturt Sabres moved-up to fourth place in League. Loser Eastern Mavericks still closes the standings with five games lost. Sturt Sabres will face Central District Lions (#9) in Gawler in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Eastern Mavericks will play at home against Woodville Warriors and look forward to get finally their first victory.
