Regular Season Round 9: Sandringham S. - Geelong S. 84-80

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Cheltenham where fourth ranked Sabres (2-2) beat 3rd placed Geelong Supercats (2-3) 84-80 on Saturday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sabres made 7 blocks. Guard Nathan Crosswell (190-79) stepped up and scored 20 points and 5 assists for the winners and the former international guard Igor Hadziomerovic (193-92, college: Boise St.) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American guard Demarcus Gatlin (193, college: Sam Houston St.) with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international swingman Nathan Herbert (192-84) scored 21 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Sabres moved-up to second place in League. Loser Geelong Supercats keep the third position with three games lost. Sabres will face league's leader Mount Gambier Pioneers in Mt Gambier in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Geelong Supercats will play at home against Canberra Gunners and hope to win that game.
