There was a small surprise in Hawthorn where eleventh ranked Magic (1-4) defeated 9th ranked Whittlesea City (1-6) 80-65 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-65. Magic forced 20 Whittlesea City turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Magic made 7 blocks. Whittlesea City was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American swingman Joshua Morrison (198-91, college: NC-Wesleyan) stepped up and scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and Jack Barry (-94) chipped in 16 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. The best for the losing side was Taane Samuel with 23 points and 5 rebounds and Jonathan Maybank scored 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
