Regular Season Round 13: Bayamon - Isabela 102-82

The game between second ranked Caciques (7-5) and ninth ranked Vaqueros (4-8) was the most important one in the last round on Tuesday night. Caciques were crushed by Vaqueros in Bayamon 102-82. The game was mostly controlled by Vaqueros. Caciques managed to win fourth quarter 29-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vaqueros forced 19 Caciques turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 58.6 percentage. Vaqueros looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Forward Johwen Villegas (193-85, college: FIU) stepped up and scored 22 points for the winners and international point guard Javier Gonzalez (185-89, college: N.Carolina St.) chipped in 15 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Gonzalez is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Vaqueros players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international point guard Ansel Guzman (174-84) responded with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and naturalized American guard Wil Martinez (188-92, college: Fairmont St., agency: Paris Global Sports) scored 18 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vaqueros moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Guayama. Caciques lost third consecutive game. They keep the second position with five games lost. They share it with Ponce. Vaqueros is looking forward to face league's leader Santeros in Coamo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Caciques will play at home against Piratas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
