Leader Santeros delivered the twelfth victory on Thursday night. This time they beat 7th ranked Vaqueros (4-9) 95-91 in Coamo. Vaqueros were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Santeros made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. Santeros had a 27-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Dominican guard Rigoberto Mendoza (190-92) scored 23 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and international Chris Gaston (201-89, college: Fordham) chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. American power forward Alex Oriakhi (208-90, college: Connecticut) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and Mexican Hector Hernandez (205-85, college: Fresno St., agency: BeoBasket) scored 18 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Santeros (12-1) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Loser Vaqueros dropped to the ninth place with nine games lost. Santeros will meet Piratas (#5) in the next round. Vaqueros will play against Capitanes (#6) and hope to secure a win.
