Regular Season Round 14: Arecibo - Mayaguez 73-88

We should mention about the upset which took place in Arecibo, where 6th ranked Capitanes (6-7) lost at home to ninth ranked Indios (4-7) 73-88. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Capitanes. The game without a history. Indios led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They also forced 19 Capitanes turnovers. Indios players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. American forward David Laury (206-90, college: Iona) notched 19 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import forward James Southerland (203-90, college: Syracuse) supported him with 22 points. Four Indios players scored in double figures. Even 14 points and 7 rebounds by the former international forward Angel Alamo (206-85) did not help to save the game for Capitanes. Naturalized American forward Angel Matias (193-92, college: Georgia South) added 20 points for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Indios moved-up to seventh place. Defending champion Capitanes keep the sixth position with seven games lost. Indios will have a break next round.
