Pinheiros shocked Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro to secure the semifinal birth. Pinheiros made 23-of-25 free shots (92.0 percent) during the game. American guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line !!!). His fellow American import guard Cordero Bennett (188-88) contributed with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Four Pinheiros players scored in double figures. The former international forward Olivinha Rodriguez (203-83) answered with 25 points and 9 rebounds and the former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Flamengo. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game.
