The game in Mayaguez was also quite interesting. Seventh ranked Vaqueros (6-9) played at the court of 8th ranked Indios (4-8). Vaqueros managed to secure a 9-point victory 73-64 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Indios won third quarter 20-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Vaqueros won last quarter 20-13. Cuban center Ismael Romero (203-91, agency: Paris Global Sports) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. Naturalized Mexican guard Joseph Soto (190-93) chipped in 15 points and 7 assists. Four Vaqueros players scored in double figures. American forward David Laury (206-90, college: Iona) produced 21 points and 9 rebounds and international Devon Collier (203-91, college: Oregon St.) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vaqueros maintains seventh position with 6-9 record. Loser Indios dropped to the ninth place with eight games lost. Vaqueros will meet at home higher ranked Caciques (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Indios will play against the league's second-placed Fajardo (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
