Regular Season Round 18: Aguada - Quebradillas 93-92

Date: May 12, 2017
Third-ranked Piratas (8-5) were very close to win a game against first ranked Santeros (14-3) in Coamo on Friday. Santeros managed to secure only one-point victory 93-92. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Piratas. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 26-21 charge, which allowed them to win the game. It was a good game for Dominican guard Rigoberto Mendoza (190-92) who saved his team from a defeat with 30 points and 5 rebounds. Egyptian-American center Omar Samhan (211-88, college: St.Mary's, CA) contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Santeros players scored in double figures. Santeros' coach Eddie Casiano used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The former international swingman Alejandro Carmona (194-83) replied with 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and guard Jonathan Garcia (183-87) added 10 points and 9 assists in the effort for Piratas. Santeros maintains first position with 14-3 record. Piratas at the other side keep the third place with five games lost. Santeros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Piratas will play at home against Vaqueros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
