Regular Season Round 22: Bayamon - Ponce 67-76

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Bayamon where 5th ranked Vaqueros (9-13) were defeated by sixth ranked Leones (9-10) 76-67. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 17-13. But Vaqueros won second period 20-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Vaqueros 40-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American Mike Harris (198-83, college: Rice) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 31 points and 14 rebounds. The other American import power forward Eric Dawson (206-84, college: Midwestern St., agency: Haylett Sports) contributed with 9 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Dawson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Cuban center Ismael Romero (203-91, agency: Paris Global Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and naturalized Mexican guard Joseph Soto (190-93) added 13 points and 11 assists in the effort for Vaqueros. Leones moved-up to fifth place. Vaqueros at the other side dropped to the sixth position with 13 games lost. Leones' next round opponent will be higher ranked Piratas (#3) in Quebradillas and it may be quite challenging game. Vaqueros will play at home against the league's leader Santeros and hope to win that game.
