Regular Season Round 11: Knox R. - Eltham W. 79-76

Date: May 28, 2017
Sixth-ranked Wildcats (5-6) gave a tough game to second ranked Knox Raiders (10-3) in Wantirna South on Sunday. Knox Raiders managed to secure only three-point victory 79-76. However their fans expected much easier game. Knox Raiders outrebounded Wildcats 50-33 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Knox Raiders made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for American guard Ta'Rea Cunnigan (175-93, college: San Jose St.) who led her team to a victory scoring 20 points and 6 rebounds. Rebecca Ott helped adding 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Knox Raiders players scored in double figures. Guard Rebecca Cole (178-92) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and the former international swingman Alice Kunek (187-91) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Wildcats' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Knox Raiders maintains second place in League with 10-3 record having just one point less than leader Kilsyth LC. Loser Wildcats keep the sixth position with six games lost. Knox Raiders will face Cougars (#8) in McKinnon in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Wildcats will play on the road against Falcons in Mount Waverley and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
