There was no surprise in Runcorn where bottom-ranked South West Metro Pirates (0-4) were defeated by leader Mackay Meteors (5-0) 102-91 on Sunday. Mackay Meteors dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to South West Metro Pirates' 38 and made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. Mackay Meteors forced 19 South West Metro Pirates turnovers. South West Metro Pirates were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international forward Lucas Walker (202-84, college: St.Mary's, CA) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and guard Shaun Bruce (190-91) chipped in 23 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. At the losing side American forward Tanner McGrew (203-93, college: W.Virg.Wesl., agency: Duran International) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 15 rebounds and guard Verle Williams Jr. (180-97) scored 25 points and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. South West Metro Pirates' coach let to play twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Mackay Meteors keep a position of League leader. Loser South West Metro Pirates still closes the standings with four games lost. Mackay Meteors will face Rockhampton Rockets (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. South West Metro Pirates will play against Toowoomba Mountaineers (#11) and hope to get finally their first victory.
