Regular Season Round 2: Titanes Licey - Leones SD 91-98

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in San Cristobal where Titanes Licey (1-1) was defeated by Leones SD (2-1) 98-91 on Wednesday. Titanes Licey trailed by 13 points at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 33-23 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 91-98 at the end of the game. Leones SD made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. Leones SD outrebounded Titanes Licey 38-27 including 26 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was naturalized American MJ Rhett (206-92, college: Mississippi) who scored 28 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Naturalized Spanish center Jhonatan Araujo (208-96) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 18 rebounds. Naturalized Spanish power forward Edward Santana (203-80) produced 21 points and 8 rebounds and American point guard Patrick Rembert (185-89, college: Cal-Irvine) added 15 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Four Titanes Licey players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leones SD will face Caneros LR (#7) in La Romana in the next round where they are favorite. Titanes Licey will play on the road against Soles SD in Santo Domingo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
