Regular Season Round 29: Bayamon - Mayaguez 72-86

We should mention about the upset which took place in Bayamon, where higher ranked Vaqueros (12-17) lost at home to tenth ranked Indios (8-16) 72-86 on Tuesday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Vaqueros. The game was mostly controlled by Indios. Vaqueros managed to win second period 28-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Indios had a 35-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American Tony Mitchell (198-89, college: Alabama) stepped up and scored 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and international guard Cliff Duran (191-89, agency: Paris Global Sports) chipped in 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Indios players scored in double figures. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: BeoBasket) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and the former international guard Jesse Pellot-Rosa (193-84, college: VCU, agency: Paris Global Sports) scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Vaqueros' coach rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. Indios maintains tenth place with 8-16 record. Loser Vaqueros keep the sixth position with 17 games lost. Indios will meet at home higher ranked Brujos (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vaqueros will have a break next round.
