There was no surprise in Juana Diaz where 8th ranked Brujos (10-16) were defeated by fifth ranked Leones (13-13) 97-87 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Leones. Brujos managed to win second period 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Dominican Victor Liz (193-86) stepped up and scored 37 points (!!!) and 7 assists for the winners and American Mike Harris (198-83, college: Rice) chipped in 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. American guard Damien Wilkins (198-80, college: Georgia) responded with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and naturalized American guard Kyle Vinales (185-92, college: Cent.Conn.St.) scored 18 points. Leones moved-up to fourth place. Brujos lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the eighth position with 16 games lost. Leones will meet at home higher ranked Piratas (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Brujos will play against Indios (#10) in Mayaguez and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
