Regular Season Round 29: Quebradillas - Fajardo 77-89

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Quebradillas. Second ranked Fajardo faced 3rd placed Piratas. Guests from (17-7) defeated host Piratas (16-9) 89-77. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Piratas. The game was mostly controlled by Fajardo. Piratas was better in third quarter 24-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Fajardo players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. International point guard Carlos Arroyo (188-79, college: FIU, agency: Interperformances) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 assists. American center Shawn James (208-83, college: Northeastern) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international swingman Alejandro Carmona (194-83) answered with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) added 10 points and 9 assists in the effort for Piratas. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Fajardo. They maintain second place with 17-7 record behind leader Aguada. Piratas at the other side keep the third position with nine games lost. Fajardo will play against Atleticos (#5) in San German in the next round. Piratas will play on the road against Leones in Juana Diaz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
